October 16, 2011 – Backbone Trail, Kistachee National Forest

Jed and I were up early this morning to meet up with other hikers at the Pack and Paddle store.  The group then convoyed north of Alexandria to the Kistachee National Forest (about 1 1/2  hours away.)  When we arrived at the trail head, a flock of geese flew over us.It was a really beautiful day.  I lagged behind most of the way just so I could take some pictures.  We would like to return and walk this trail at a more leisurely pace (probably camp overnight as there is a nice overlook with a fairly flat surface for pitching a tent.)The trip leader, Kevin, took photos too…

On the way out, I couldn’t resist stopping to photograph the cotton field we passed on the way in.
