November 14, 2011 – Harvesting bitter panicum at Nicholls State University Farm

I learned about this volunteer opportunity at a Halloween party from Dr. Allyse Ferrara (Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Nicholls State University.)   Volunteers (made mostly up of students) met at Nicholls State University Farm off La 1.  This is where we were given long strands of bitter panicum to cut into 3 foot segments.  We were instructed to bunch them into 100 pieces.   I ended up sectioning mine into 10 bunch portions so I could keep track more easily (plus I liked the way it looked.)
